Les nommés pour les Costa Book Awards sont…

Les lecteurs français pourront découvrir deux titres en lice pour le prestigieux prix anglais: le roman de Maggie O’Farrell à paraître chez Belfond en janvier, et celui de Sam Byers, publié en août dernier au Seuil.

La liste des auteurs nommés pour les Costa Book Awards, qui récompensent des écrivains anglais ou irlandais dans cinq catégories (roman, premier roman, biographie, poésie et jeunesse), a été dévoilée le 26 novembre.

Deux des titres en lice ont été traduits en français. Le premier roman de Sam Byers, Idiopathy (Fourth Estate), est paru le 22 août dernier au Seuil sous le titre Idiopathie: un roman d’amour, de narcissisme et de vaches en souffrance. Quant au roman de Maggie O’Farrell, intitulé Instructions for a Heatwave (Tinder Press), il sera publié le 9 janvier par Belfond sous le titre En cas de forte chaleur.

Pour la première fois de l’histoire des Costa, un prix pourrait être décerné à titre posthume. Bernardine Bishop, en compétition dans la catégorie "meilleur roman" pour Unexpected Lessons in Love (John Murray), est en effet décédée en juillet dernier à l’âge de 73 ans des suites d’un cancer.

Par ailleurs, cette catégorie "meilleur roman" compte, situation assez rare pour être soulignée, uniquement des femmes: Bernardine Bishop donc, Kate Atkinson, Maggie O’Farrell et Evie Wyld. Le nom du lauréat de chaque liste, qui recevra 6 000 euros, sera dévoilé le 6 janvier, ainsi que celui du gagnant toutes catégories, qui remportera 36 000 euros, le 28 janvier.
